DRONEDGE 2026: A Layered Approach to Counter-UAS Defence

DRONEDGE 2026: A Layered Approach to Counter-UAS Defence

On 7–8 October 2026, JISR Institute participated in DRONEDGE 2026, held at the historic Fanta Building in Prague, Czech Republic. The 11th edition of this major Czech industry event, organized by the Czech Unmanned Aerial Alliance (UAVA), brought together representatives of industry, government authorities, security organizations, academia and the wider professional community.

The conference provided a platform for discussing the development of unmanned technologies, their practical applications, safety and emerging challenges. As unmanned aircraft systems become increasingly widespread, the need for effective protection against the threats they may pose continues to grow.

During the conference, JISR Institute presented its approach to Layered Counter-UAS Defence and the ANDROMEDA solution.

The fundamental principle of layered defence is the combination of complementary detection and countermeasure technologies. No single sensor or effector can reliably address every type of unmanned aircraft threat or operational scenario. Integrating radar, radio-frequency, electro-optical, infrared and other technologies therefore enables a more comprehensive and flexible protection capability.

Command and control (C2) plays a critical role within such an architecture, connecting individual components into a coherent operational system. It enables information from multiple sources to be consolidated and assessed, supports the creation of a common situational picture and facilitates the coordination of appropriate responses to identified threats.

This approach forms the foundation of ANDROMEDA, a solution that integrates detection assets, command and control capabilities and available countermeasures within a unified C-UAS architecture. Its modular design allows system configurations to be adapted to specific operational requirements, including the protection of critical infrastructure, strategic facilities and mobile operational assets.

During the conference, we had the opportunity to present our perspective on modern Counter-UAS defence and engage with the professional community on the importance of interoperability, data integration and effective management of multi-layered defence systems.

We appreciate the opportunity to be part of this professional platform and to contribute to discussions on the development of capabilities that will play an increasingly important role in protecting both civilian and military infrastructure.

We would like to thank the organizers, partners and all participants for the valuable discussions and professional exchange.
